The hierarchy of cool

by on Friday, July 20, 2012 5:31 pm

For a year I was definitely the coolest person in Jefferson’s life. No longer. Now I am at best in third place.

I’ve thought about the underlying reasons why and I think I can now explain.

It depends upon fun and accessibility.

– Fun quotient: How much of your interaction consists of smiles, laughter, play, and in general a good time.
– Accessibility: How often he’s able to see you.

So here is the hierarchy of cool, from left to right.

Fun Accessibility
1) Ophelia (Aunt) Super Fun. Known as “The Fun.” Lives 3K miles away. Visits only a few times a year.
2) M.L. (Neighbor) Smiles and indulges Jefferson when she sees him. Seen normally for 20 minutes a few times a week.
3) Dave (Dad) Plays, laughs, giggles, etc. Comes home each night and usually available for play an hour or longer.

I suppose Paula is likely in sixth place after World Word and Thomas the Train.
